What is Equine Assisted Learning?

Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is a learning approach that promotes the development of life skills for educational, professional, and personal goals through equine-assisted activities on the ground.
Working with horses provides opportunities to practice critical life skills such as trust, respect, honesty, and clear communication. Horses use mostly non-vocal communication and are in tune with human behaviour — helping participants understand how their non-verbal signals impact others.

What is Equine Assisted Learning?
−Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is a learning approach that promotes the development of life skills for educational, professional, and personal goals through equine-assisted activities. Working with horses on the ground — never in the saddle — participants practice trust, respect, honest communication, and self-awareness. Horses respond to our energy and body language in real time, offering immediate, non-judgmental feedback that helps us understand how we show up in relationships and everyday life.
Do I need riding or horse experience?
+No. Our programs are entirely ground-based — there is no riding involved. You do not need any prior experience with horses. Facilitators guide you through safe, structured activities at a pace that respects your comfort level. Many participants have never been near a horse before their first session.

+Talking Horse welcomes individuals, youth, families, teams, and organizations throughout the Annapolis Valley and beyond. Programs are tailored for personal growth, youth development, family connection, small businesses, and corporate team building. Whether you are navigating a life transition, strengthening workplace communication, or supporting a young person building confidence, EAL offers a unique experiential path forward.
